Micro Stakes Double or Nothing SNG Strategy

An excellent starting point for any beginning poker player is double or nothing sit and go’s. Double or nothing SNG’s provide a great chance for players to scoop profits because the competition is fairly weak and half the field cashes, which is a real confidence booster. Of course, you’re not going to just waltz right in and crush the competition if you’re totally new to this type of play, so it’s worth looking at some micro stakes double or nothing strategy.

DoN’s require a Lot of Discipline

Compared to some of the bigger poker tournaments and cash games, DoN SNG’s are pretty boring. Play is usually tight because the large amount of cashers breeds conservative play. This being the case, you really need to be disciplined and not chase hands with marginal holdings – especially in the early stages. Sure this doesn’t make for the most exciting form of online poker, but it can be very profitable for smart players.

Use Poker Software and/or take Notes

If you’re going to consistently play DoN SNG’s, it definitely pays to use poker software and/or take notes on regulars. The Carbon Poker Calculator is a nice tool in this regard because it keeps track of various statistics on your opponents. You can also take notes on those you commonly see at the tables with the software or take your own notes; either way it’s very important that you keep track regular DoN players for future reference.

Play Tight near the Bubble

In most cases, you want to keep a very tight range of hands near the bubble in micro stakes DoN SNG’s. After all, five out of the six players on the bubble are going to cash, so there’s no reason to make overly-risky steals if your stack is doing alright. Of course, there are always exceptions – mainly if you’ve got one of the bottom three stacks and are fighting to make it ITM. With experience, you should learn when it’s time to turn up the aggression and attempt more steals during bubble play.

Assuming you play lots of DoN’s, don’t forget to sign up at Carbon Poker so that you can compete in the monthly SNG Leaderboard race and get their 100% up to $600 Carbon Poker bonus.
